The Big Jump

with 2 comments

So, I’ve gone and done it, I’ve put in my two weeks notice at work. It’s been just over two years, and I believe it’s time to move on, not only to more interesting work, but hopefully to self-employment as well. It seems like now is the time to be an independent contractor, with lots of new opportunities arising daily in the technology world, and I don’t want to be tied down to a large, inflexible company as I am now. That, and quite frankly, I’m kind of bored with the work I do right now. I’d rather be working on either a product/website that is really, really cool, or at least working on a new site every other month. So, I cross my fingers, and jump in.

Oh yeah, and happy birthday to me. Only one more year till I can’t be trusted by the youth anymore.

Specialized Flickr Accounts

with one comment

One of the great things I’ve noticed on Flickr recently is the abundance of “specialized” photo posters. These are users who post photos almost entirely of the same theme or subject. These are better than just photo pools, I find, because you get a more personal view of which ever subject the person has chosen. It’s very much like a topical photo blog of sorts. I especially like the ones based on a particular location (like Iraq or Antarctica), since they usually have an almost photojournalistic feel to them. Here are some that I keep track of:

  • Antarctic_m posts photos of life at the Halley Research Station on Antarctica.
  • Jhletchford posts photos of his squad (division?), the Wolfpack, patrolling Iraq.
  • Mannequindisplay posts some interesting photos of mannequins.
  • Vision_aerie is a pilot (I assume) who posts lots of great aerial photos.
  • Bricklovinfreakboy posts photos of his awesome lego creations.

I would have posted actual photo examples of each, but I’m not sure if they’d all approve, and I am too lazy (or timid) to ask them all, so go have a look for yourselves. Enjoy, and please drop any links to other, similar Flickr profiles you might find.
